Jim’s love of painting began in grammar school in Atlanta, Georgia. His first commissions, sketches of airplanes and comic book covers, were for his classmates. He attended the High Museum School of Art, Atlanta, and afterwards began a career in commercial art. He lives in the North Georgia Mountains where he and his wife, Mary, founded the North Georgia Arts Guild. He is a past vice president of the Georgia Watercolor Society and has participated in regional, national, one man and group shows for over thirty years. He was invited to exhibit in the prestigious Biennale Intermazionale Dell’ Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy in December 2003. Jim is a member of the Oil Painters Of America and is represented in New York by Amsterdam Whitney International Fine Art.
Jim has conducted watercolor workshops and classes in Atlanta, Rome, Northeast Georgia and North Carolina. In recent years Jim has been painting Plein Air oil on canvas and finds this a very exciting and rewarding experience producing small quick pieces on location and larger works in the studio.
